• [Music] Colorado Symphony, 'Nutcracker'

  (Denver = Wongeol Jeong) 매년 크리스마스가 다가오면, 익숙한 멜로디가 생겼다. 그 기억을 더듬어 가다 보면, 어김없이 Tchaikovsky의 Nutcracker가 만면에 웃음을 띄고 서있다. Colorado Symphony가 Tchaikovsky의 Nutcracker 연주회를 가졌다. 지난 12일 부터 14일 까지, 3일에 걸쳐 Denver Center for the Performing Arts에서 열린 이번 연주회는 지휘자, Andrew Litton의 지휘 아래 막을 올렸다. • [Opera] 'Turandot' Puccini의 Master Piece, Colorado Opera 공연

  (Denver = Wongeol Jeong) Opera Colorado가 Puccini의 Turandot를 공연했다. 지난 6일, 9일, 12일, 14일 4일간, Denver Center for the Performing Arts에 자리한 Ellie Caulkins Opera House에서 열린 이번 공연은, Puccini가 만든 최후이자 최고의 Opera로 정평이 나 있다. 특히 이 Opera의 Highlight인 Nessun Dorma 부분에서는 모든 관중들이 숨을 죽이며 몰입했다. 이번 공연에서는 지휘자 ARI PELTO이 지휘를 맡았고, SAHAR NOURI가 Chorus Master and Assistant Conductor를 맡았다. 그리고 ARIA UMEZAWA가 Director의 역할을 맡아 Opera Turandot를 성공적으로 이끌어냈다. 이 공연에서 Kara Shay Thomson이 Princess Turandot역할을, Jonathan Burton이 Calàf 역할을 맡아 열연을 펼쳤다. 또, New York City Opera debut as Colline (La bohème)로 데뷔한 한국인 Bass Young Bok Kim이 Timur 역할을 맡아 무대를 한층 빛냈다.

  (Denver = Wongeol Jeong) Russian composer Rachmaninoff, what kind of life did he live...? What kind of life did he live to make our hearts flutter and tingle like this? On the local time of the 28th, the Colorado Symphony, under the direction of conductor Carolyn Kuan, held a performance of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. With her shoulder-length black hair flowing, the stylish and talented female conductor, Kuan, began to move the musicians. The passionate piano performance by pianist Simon Trpceski from Macedonia blended with the Colorado Symphony's playing. Familiar melodies, as famous as they were, echoed in our ears. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. Our hearts raced to the sound of the piano. Rachmaninoff, true to the name "Rhapsody," approached the same melody with different feelings, different moods. The march-like melody transformed into a melody reminiscent of Hungarian dances. Suddenly, the desire to dance arose. It felt as if the audience was moving in sync with Rachmaninoff's melodies. The piece flowed like the gentle and smooth current of the sea. And... suddenly, memories of past love came to mind. It became a slightly melancholic feeling, as if one wanted to cry. It was undoubtedly the magic created by the Rachmaninoff. In this way, the genius composer etches his name into the hearts of those who alive even after death. This performance, which maximized the beauty of the piano, was a moment that allowed us to experience the genius of Rachmaninoff, the pianist Simon Trpceski from Macedonia, and the conductor Carolyn Kuan, as well as the sincerity of the members of the Colorado Symphony and the overwhelming emotions that come from that sincerity, surpassing the brilliance of geniuses.

• [음악] 지나간 사랑의 기억... '라흐마니노프 랩소디 파가니니 테마'

  (Denver = Wongeol Jeong) 러시아 출신의 작곡가 Rachmaninoff는, 어떤 삶을 살았을까...? 어떤 삶을 살았기에, 이토록 가슴을 설레고 시리게 할까? 현지시각 28일, Colorado Symphony가 지휘자 Carolyn Kuan의 지휘 아래 Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini 연주회를 가졌다. 어깨까지 기른 흑발을 흩날리며, 멋진 기풍의 여류 지휘자 Kuan이 연주자들을 움직이기 시작했다. 마케도니아에서 온 피아니스트 Simon Trpceski의 신들린 듯한 피아노 연주와 Colorado Symphony의 연주가 어우러지고 있었다. 유명한 만큼이나 익숙한 선율이 귓가를 맴돌았다. 때로는 빨랐고 때로는 느려졌다. 심장소리가 피아노 소리에 맞춰 두근거리고 있었다. • [Music] Maestro 'Oundjian' returns with 'Beethoven Violin Concerto'

  (Denver = Wongeol Jeong) It was a cloudy evening in early spring. Looking at the sunset sky full of clouds, I couldn't help but think "it's like one of Beethoven's lifetimes." He was a genius, but also unlucky and poor. However, his music shone brightly in the darkness. His spirit and music were independent of the reality he faced, much like the weather seemed irrelevant. The Beethoven violin concerto began with the conductor Peter Oundjian, a Canadian, and the violinist James Ehnes, whose skilled and masterful playing delighted the audience. Having played music together for a long time, Oundjian and Ehnes understood each other well. It was impressive to see them exchange glances to synchronize their timing at the beginning of each movement. With Beethoven's unique melody and mood, the concert began. The concerto for violin and cello erected a pillar of sound, with melodies weaving a net of light horizontally and vertically on it. The walls of majestic sound were shining in pastel tones in front of our eyes. In the second part of the concert, Oundjian introduced the audience to Bruckner's Symphony No. 7. Bruckner's symphony approached us quietly and delicately, then covered the concert hall with a giant curtain of sound. At times, it led us like a giant ship with surging waves, and at other times, it guided us into a peaceful forest in the afternoon. In the whirlwind of music created by Peter Oundjian and Bruckner, the audience felt both fear and joy, tranquility and excitement. The Colorado Symphony, with its new conductor Peter Oundjian, is expected to present even higher-level music.

• [Music] 지휘자 Oundjian, 베토벤과 함께 오다

  (Denver = Wongeol Jeong) 구름이 가득 낀 초 봄의 저녁이었다. 구름 가득히 저물어가는 저녁 하늘을 보면서 왠지 '베토벤의 한 생애 같다'는 생각이 들었다. 천재였지만, 불운했고, 가난했던 사나이. 그러나 그의 음악 만큼은 어둠 속에서 빛났다. 그의 정신과 음악은, 그가 처해있던 현실과는 상관없었다. 마치, 날씨 따위는 아무래도 상관없는 것 처럼... 베토벤 바이올린 콘서트는 캐나다 태생의 지휘자 Peter Oundjian의 지휘와 함께 시작됐다. 바이올린 연주는 James Ehnes, 감각적인 기교와 오랜 기간 숙련된 연주가 귀를 즐겁게 하고 있었다. Oundjian과 Ehnes는 오랜 기간 함께 음악을 연주해 온 만큼, 서로를 잘 이해하고 있었다. 악장이 새로 시작할 때, 서로 눈을 맞추며 시작할 타이밍을 맞추는 모습이 꽤나 인상적이었다. 베토벤 특유의 선율과 분위기로, 연주회는 막을 올렸다. 바이올린과 첼로의 협주가 소리의 기둥을 세우고 있었다. 그리고 그 기둥에 기대어 선율이 가로와 세로로 빛의 그물을 짜고 있었다. 웅장한 소리의 벽들이 눈 앞에서 파스텔 톤으로 빛나고 있었다. 이어진 2부에서 Oundjian은 Bruckner의 심포니 7번을 청중들에게 소개했다. Bruckner의 심포니는 조용하고 섬세하게 다가왔다. 그리고는 점점 거대한 소리의 장막으로 콘서트 홀을 뒤덮었다. 때로는 파도가 넘실대는 거대한 함선으로 우리를 이끌었고, 때로는 오후의 조용한 숲으로 우리를 안내하고 있었다. Peter Oundjian과 Bruckner가 만들어내는 음악의 소용돌이 속에서, 청중들은 공포와 환희, 고요를 동시에 느끼고 있었다. Colorado Symphony가 새로운 지휘자 Peter Oundjian과 함께, 한층 더 높은 수준의 음악을 선보일 것으로 기대된다.
