[Opera] Grammy Award-Winning Mezzo-Soprano Michelle DeYoung to Perform at June Swaner Gates Concert Hall

(Denver = Wongeol Jeong) Mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung, a Colorado native and Grammy Award-winning artist, will be performing at the June Swaner Gates Concert Hall on Thursday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. The performance, presented by Opera Colorado and the Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver, will feature DeYoung and pianist Cody Guy Garrison in an intimate program showcasing a diverse range of repertoire including works by Ziesl, Duparc, Mahler, and Korngold.
DeYoung is highly sought after throughout the world and has been featured as a soloist with prestigious ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, and the Concertgebouworkest. She has also graced the stages of renowned festivals including Ravinia, Tanglewood, Saito Kinen, Edinburgh, and Lucerne.
In addition to her solo performances, DeYoung is equally at home on the opera stage and has appeared with acclaimed companies such as the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Teatro alla Scala, Bayreuth Festival, Berliner Staatsoper, and the Paris Opera. She has performed a wide range of roles, including Fricka, Sieglinde, and Waltraute in The Ring Cycle; Kundry in Parsifal; Venus in Tannhäuser; Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde; Eboli in Don Carlos; Amneris in Aida; Santuzza in Cavellaria rusticana; Ježibaba in Rusalka; Marguerite in Le Damnation de Faust; Dido in Les Troyens; Judith in Bluebeard's Castle; and Jocaste in Oedipus Rex. She also originated the role of the Shaman in Tan Dun's The First Emperor at the Metropolitan Opera.
