[Music] Opera Colorado Seeks Supernumeraries for Turandot: Non-Singing Roles Available

(Denver = Wongeol Jeong) Opera Colorado is seeking community members to participate in their upcoming production of Puccini's Turandot. Specifically, the organization is seeking individuals to fill the roles of handmaidens and executioners in non-singing, non-speaking supernumerary roles.

Supernumeraries are akin to extras in a film or TV production. They fill out scenes and provide additional background context to the story being told, but they do not have speaking or singing parts. For Turandot, Opera Colorado needs four women to play handmaidens throughout the production, and four men to portray the Executioner and Executioner's Assistants in one scene of the opera.

In exchange for their time and talent, all community volunteers who participate as supernumeraries will receive several benefits. These include two tickets to the Turandot final dress rehearsal on Thursday, May 4th, a parking/travel stipend of $7.50 per day, and access to up to four discounted tickets to use during the run of Turandot performances.

Rehearsals for Turandot will take place between April 11th and April 25th, 2023, at the Opera Colorado Opera Center in Englewood, Colorado. Technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and all performances will take place on varying dates between April 28th and May 14th, 2023, at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at the Denver Performing Arts Complex in downtown Denver. Rehearsals will take place during weekday evenings and weekends, with some daytime availability requested.

Applicants should include a photograph of themselves, along with their height and a description of any stage experience they may have. Please note that positions are available on a first-come basis to qualified candidates with the appropriate schedule availability.
