(Denver = Wongeol Jeong) The Colorado Rockies staged a comeback victory against the Washington Nationals in the last game of their four-game home series at Coors Field on April 9, 2023. Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Rockies added 4 runs to win the game 7-6.

In the 4th inning, Elias Diaz hit a solo home run to tie the game at 2-2 while in the 5th inning, Jurickson Profar hit a solo home run to tie the game at 3-3. Rockies' right-handed starting pitcher, Ryan Feltner, allowed 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 walks, and struck out 3 batters over 5 innings before handing the mound over to right-hander Jake Bird.

Bird hit the first batter, Lane Thomas, with a pitch and retired Ildemaro Vargas but then allowed consecutive hits to the next batters, recording 2 outs before handing the ball to Brad Hand.

Left-hander Brad Hand allowed a wild pitch to Keibert Ruiz, giving up 1 run, but then struck out the next batter, Stone Garrett, to end the inning. However, the Nationals added 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning to make the score 6-3.

 

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Elias Diaz hit a double off Erasmo Ramírez's 88.7 mph cutter, bringing Elehuris Montero home to cut the deficit to 6-5. Charlie Blackmon also contributed with a single that brought Diaz home, tying the game at 6-6.

Hobie Harris took the mound for the Nationals but gave up a walk to Ryan McMahon, providing the opportunity for the Rockies to take the lead. The game ended with no scoring in the 7th and 8th innings.

 

In the top of the 9th inning, the Rockies held on to their 1-run lead of 7-6 with Pierce Johnson on the mound. Johnson walked Dominic Smith but then struck out the next three batters to secure the victory.

Dinelson Lamet was credited with the win, and Pierce Johnson recorded the save. The Rockies will host the Saint Louis Cardinals for a three-game series starting on April 10.
