Black Set to Become Franchise's Longest-Tenured Manager and Among Active Leaders in Career Wins
(Denver = Wongeol Jeong) Manager Bud Black has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Colorado Rockies through the 2024 season, as announced by the team today.
Black, 65, has managed the Rockies for six seasons, boasting a record of 417-453, ranking him third in franchise history in games managed and wins.
With this extension, Black will become the manager who has led the most games in franchise history.
Prior to his time with the Rockies, Black was a special assistant to the general manager for the Los Angeles Angels in 2016, and he managed the San Diego Padres from 2007 to 2015, leading them to 649 wins.
In 2010, he was named the NL Manager of the Year after leading the Padres to a 90-72 record.
Black is one of five active Major League managers with over 1,000 career wins, alongside Dusty Baker, Terry Francona, Buck Showalter, and Bob Melvin.
As a player, Black pitched for several teams over a 15-year career, including the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays, and San Francisco Giants, accumulating a record of 121-116 with a 3.84 ERA.
