In the bottom of the seventh inning, Colorado had a scoring opportunity but failed to capitalize on it. Castro reached first base, and Trejo hit a double. However, they couldn't score due to a lack of offensive firepower. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Colorado slugger Blackmon hit a home run over the right field fence. Blackmon followed Scherzer and pulled an 83 mph slider from Robertson over the fence, scoring a solo home run and bringing Colorado closer at 4-2.
