[MLB] Rockies clinch a one-run victory in 'home opener' against Nationals
Victory secured by the game-winning hit from star player Kris Bryant

(Denver = Wongeol Jeong) The Colorado Rockies clinched a 1-0 victory in the 2023 MLB Home Opener game. The game was played at their home field, Coors Field in Colorado, on April 6th local time, and they faced off against the Washington Nationals.

Left-hander Kyle Freeland started for Colorado and became the winning pitcher of the Home Opener game, pitching 6.2 innings with 4 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.

Both teams kept the game tight with a 0-0 score until the 4th inning, when Kris Bryant's hit broke the balance in the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Ezequiel Tovar hit a double off Josiah Gray's 86.1 mph slider, and Kris Bryant, who came up as the next batter, hit a single to left-center field. Kris Bryant's hit allowed Ezequiel Tovar to score from second base.
Kris Bryant became the hero of the game by hitting the ball with his bat on the 6th pitch, an 83.9 mph curveball, on a full count.
Colorado is scheduled to host home games at Coors Field against Washington on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of April.
