(Denver = Wongeol Jeong) In a move that has sent ripples of excitement through the Colorado Avalanche fan base, the team announced today that they have successfully claimed goaltender Ivan Prosvetov on waivers from the Arizona Coyotes. This acquisition adds depth and potential to the Avalanche’s goaltending roster for the 2023-24 NHL season.

At just 24 years old, Ivan Prosvetov has already shown great promise in his young career. His 2022-23 season with the Arizona Coyotes saw him post a 4-3-0 record with a 3.98 goals-against average and a .880 save percentage in seven games. Notably, he made his season debut on March 9 against the Nashville Predators, securing his first career NHL win by stopping an impressive 39 of 40 shots.

Prosvetov’s early success in the NHL continued with two more wins in his next two starts, accumulating a perfect 3-0-0 record, a 1.67 goals-against average, and a remarkable .952 save percentage in his first three NHL games last season. These impressive statistics are indicative of a goaltender with significant potential and the ability to make a meaningful impact on his team.

Ivan Prosvetov’s journey to the NHL began in his hometown of Moscow, Russia. Before turning pro, he played in various leagues in North America, including a standout season with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit in 2018-19. During that season, he tallied an impressive 36-11-3 record with a 2.94 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage, and four shutouts. His stellar performance earned him a spot on the OHL’s Third All-Star Team, showcasing his potential as a top-tier goaltender.

The Arizona Coyotes originally drafted Ivan Prosvetov in the fourth round (114th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft. Since then, he has honed his skills and gained valuable experience both in the AHL and the NHL. His AHL career with the Tucson Roadrunners was particularly noteworthy, where he compiled a 16-13-4 record with a 3.06 goals-against average, a .900 save percentage, and one shutout over 35 appearances, leading the team’s goaltenders in multiple statistical categories.

As Prosvetov joins the Colorado Avalanche, he brings not only his impressive statistics but also the promise of growth and potential. His size, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 193 pounds, adds another layer of versatility to the Avalanche’s goaltending options. Avalanche fans can look forward to witnessing his continued development and contributions to the team’s success in the upcoming 2023-24 season.

In a league where goaltending plays a pivotal role in a team’s success, the addition of Ivan Prosvetov to the Colorado Avalanche roster is an exciting development. With his youth, talent, and early NHL success, he is undoubtedly a player to watch as he embarks on the next chapter of his career in the Mile High City.
